ENGR. YUSUF JIMOH ADEKUNLE, FNSE

Engr. Yusuf Jimoh Adekunle was born in Ila Orangun, Osun State on 10th April 1963. Upon completion of his Secondary school in 1981, he was admitted into the School of Basic Studies of Kwara State College of Technology (Now Kwara State Polytechnic) Ilorin for IJMB A Level studies. He gained admission to study Civil Engineering at University of Ilorin in 1983 and graduated in 1987. His National Youth Service in Magama Local Government of Niger State turned out to be a valuable prelude to a working life that would take him round several parts of the country.

He became a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in 1992, got registered with COREN in 1994 and later joined the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) and the Nigerian Institution of Highways and Transportation Engineers (NIHTE).
Engr Yusuf Jimoh Adekunle started his working career as a Site Engineer with Dimson Construction Company Nig Ltd in December 1988 where he was in charge of some Federal Road rehabilitation projects. He joined the Federal Civil Service in November 1990 as an Executive Engineer II (Grade Level 8) in Federal Ministry of Works and Housing and rose in the service till he became a Director (Highways) Construction and Rehabilitation (Grade Level 17) in charge of the North Central Zone until early October 2021 when he was posted as the Director Rail Transport Services in the Federal Ministry of Transportation.

Within his 31 years in the Highways Department of the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, he worked under many seasoned Chief Highway Engineers/Federal Controllers on various road construction and rehabilitation projects that includes:

i. The Construction of Kano Eastern Bypass and Challawa – Madobi Yako road in Kano State;
ii. The Rehabilitation of Kaura Namoda – Shinkafi – Sabon Birni Road in Zamfara State and
iii. The Construction of Ibadan – Ilorin Dual Carriageway (Ogbomosho – Ilorin) in Kwara State.

In April 2005, he was seconded to the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) as a Chief Maintenance Engineer in Bauchi and later Ebonyi State. He returned to the parent Ministry in 2009 and worked as Federal Controller of Works, Jigawa State/Engineer’s Representative on the Rehabilitation of Hadejia – Nguru Road (Sec I & II) till 2014. He was redeployed in January 2014 to the South East Zonal Headquarters in Enugu as a Deputy Director and later in 2016 as Deputy Director Highways Construction and Rehabilitation until 2018 when he became the Director Highways at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja.
He is presently the Director and Head of the Department of Rail Transport Services in the Federal Ministry of Transportation.

i. He has attended several professional trainings and workshops in Nigeria and outside the country and contributed in line of duty in the formulation of government policies on Highways project management and financing and lately formulation of Rail Transport policies.
ii. He is married to his heartthrob and blessed with Godly children.
