The Ministry is responsible in the development of infrastructure for the rail, ports, inland waterways subsectors. There are other Survey concerns involved in the Joint Border Posts (JBPs) facilities, Vehicle Travel Areas (VTAs) facilities, Inland Dry Ports facilities and new Office and other buildings to be developed by the Ministry and its Agencies from time to time. The professional supervision of the survey component of these programme and projects to make sure the value for money to the government, is the core function of the Unit in the Ministry
FUNCTIONS:  

i. Cadastral Survey of all Landed properties belonging to the Federal Ministry of Transportation and its Agencies;

ii. Monitoring and supervision of Right- of- Way Survey of Railway Lines both ongoing and the proposed ones;

iii. Deformation Monitoring of Railway Lines;

iv. Processing letter of exchange from the respective state governments that cut across both proposed and on-going rail lines;

v. Bathymetric Assessment of inland water ways and ports;

vi. Right–of-Way Survey of inland water ways and ports;

vii. Compensation Survey assessment of right of way of rail lines;

viii. Capacity building of staff of survey unit in the Ministry of Transportation;

ix. On-Site inspection of contractors handling survey jobs and survey related contracts under the Ministry;

x. Title deed preparation for Cadastral survey of landed properties of Ministry and its Agencies;

xi. Advising management and making inputs on the survey related procurements, among others.
